Vitamin C is a popular skincare antioxidant and for good reason-it works!
Topically applied Vitamin C:
- Helps to build proteins in the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles
- Reduces free radical damage caused by sunlight, pollution, and stress (it’s an antioxident)
- Minimizes the appearance of brown spots by quieting melanin activity in the skin
- Firms, brightens and lightens!
What’s not to like?!
Talk to a skincare professional about finding the right topical formulation of Vitamin C for your skin.
Without adequate Vitamin C, your skin is unable to efficiently produce collagen proteins or keep up with free radical damage, which can lead to the appearance of pre-mature aging. Also, there are different forms of Vitamin C found in popular skin care products and some can be irritating for the wrong skin type or when combined with topical exfoliants and Vitamin A products. Popular forms of Vitamin C include: Ascorbic Acid, L-Ascorbic Acid, magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, ascorbyl palmitate, ascorbyl glucosamine, ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, and 3-0-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid (L).
In addition to topically applied vitamin C, oral supplementation of Vitamin C is worth considering too! Many of us are burning the candle at both ends and running on empty. Not a good look for our skin! After having my vitamin and mineral levels tested a couple of years ago, I was shocked to learn that I was internally Vitamin C deficient. A colorful vegetarian diet wasn’t enough to support this body on the go so I began supplementing regularly because of the know systemic benefits.
Vitamin C is a powerhouse antioxidant:
- Reduces inflammation
- Excellent for immune support
- Necessary building block of protein formation in skin and body
I encourage my clients to supplement their diet with additional vitamin C.
I’m not a nutritionist but I encourage those who are curious to have their vitamin levels tested to make sure this skin-loving and immune boosting vitamin is abundantly available to their bodies for cellular repair and overall health!
